In Iowa and Nebraska the weather can and does change with little or no fore warning.

It was just last week that we were talking record high temps in the 70′s for Thankgiving and some of us took advantage of the warm weather by cooking our Turkey in the deep fryer, or grilled our feast in the back yard and gathered with family and friends on the deck.

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata has many added features. One of the main improvements is the gas mileage. The 2012 Sonata’s 2.4L 274-hp 4-cylinder engine is rated for 24 mpg in the city (up from 22 mpg) and still 35 mpg on the highway. The Turbo 2.0L engine will get 22 mpg city and 34 mpg highway (up from 33 mpg).

In addition to better has mileage, drivers will get Bluelink standard (similar to GM’s OnStar): it provides a direct connection to emergency services in the event of an accident, gives traffic and weather updates, and allows owners easy access to roadside assistance.

The 2012 Sonata’s optional touchscreen navigation will be upgraded to 7 inches (up from 6.5 inches.) Sonata Limited trims now come with a panoramic sunroof standard. A backup cameras is now available with the SE trim level when equipped with a navigation and a sunroof (was only available on Limited trims for 2011).

Hyundai has yet to announce a release date or pricing information for the 2012 Sonata. Speculation is that pricing will increase $300 on lower end Sonata’s and $850 on the higher end trim levels.

Continue reading »]]> For the first time ever, used car trade-in values have gone up every month for the last 6 months. Its common knowledge that cars are not investments and depreciate. That has not been the case, especially in Omaha.

Many factors contribute to this unique case of used vehicle valuations:

1. The lack of low-mileage, late-model trades in 2009 during the recession
2. Cash for Clunkers took a large chunk of used cars off the road permanantly
3. The Japan crisis has severely restricted auto-makers  supply of new cars

The 2010 Elantra GLS Example

After rebates, customers at the end of 2010 were buying the new 2010 Hyundai Elantra’s with a GLS trim level and automatic transmission in the mid to low teens. In February 2011, the clean trade-in value according to NADA was $11,350.

If those customers drive their vehicle 10,000 miles, that exact same Elantra is worth $14,425 on clean trade-in for June 2011 according to NADA. That’s a $3,075 increase in 4 months!

Depending on what you paid for your 2010 Elantra, you could have driven it for 6 months and trade out and either break even or make a profit.
